I have to brag. My team is SO FANTASTIC! Aren't these little cards the cutest? At my last team meeting we did a 3x3 swap using the NEW Stella paper packet and we added them to some NEW twine to create this adorable garland. I don't seem to have any Valentine decorations around my house, so this is perfect!

Do your stamped sayings look boring or flat? Then try this shadowing technique!

Before:

Stamp your saying in black. I used Gray Flannel Cardstock, but any color will work.

Now ink up the same Close to My Heart My Acrylix(tm) stamp with Gray Flannel ink:

Line up the stamp over your previously stamped saying, but move it slightly down and to the right or left. Now you've added a shadow and it really helps your saying POP!

Valentine Owl

My upline, Linda Roberts, sent me a similar owl and I just had to copy it. Isn't he cute!? We are making these at one of my Close to My Heart classes tonight. It is a pillow box that holds a little Valentine packet of M&M's. Yum! Let me know if you and a couple of friends would like to learn how to make it too! Yes, all of the pieces used the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge and the Roxie Paper Packet!

January Stamp of the Month: Little Reminder

New Consultant Kit with the Spring/Summer Products!

If you've thought about signing up, but have some questions, here are a few FAQ's that might help:

How much does it cost? It's only $99 and you have a chance to be reimbursed in products within the first 90 days! Click here to see a list of what comes in the consultant kit.

What are the requirements? Active consultants need to have $300 in sales each quarter. (Your own purchases count too!) Just one workshop or gathering a month can help you achieve the minimums, but of course the more you hold, the more money you will make! If a consultant does not sell $300 in a quarter then they drop down to a Junior Consultant which earns a smaller discount and commission.

Who pays for the Hostess Gifts? Close to My Heart pays for everything! This does not come out of your commission. Plus, if you order $150 of products either for yourself or individual customers then YOU get the hostess gifts! Jackpot!

What if I don't want to hold gatherings and just want to get a discount on my purchases? Many consultants are "hobbyists" and that is great! That is how I started out because I wanted the discount, but didn't have a lot of time to hold outside parties. I was going to college full time (go Huskies!) and had a job, but now that my life has changed I enjoy earning more money and supporting my team.

How much can I earn? Consultants earn between 22-35% depending on the monthly sales and can earn additional product credit and team commissions!

Do I have to have an outgoing personality to be a consultant? Not at all! That is one reason I actually became a consultant. I was somewhat shy, but wanted to meet new people that enjoyed papercrafting as well. It has helped me meet many of my closest friends!

What type of training will I receive? I gear my training based upon the desires of the new consultant and their skill level. Personal meetings, online chats, and phone conversations are all great options. My team meets once a month to go over business ideas, learn new techniques, and of course have fun! In addition to my training, Close to My Heart also has am AMAZING amount of training available. "Start with Heart" is a program that takes you step by step and tells you exactly what to do when. CTMH also has an online training academy where you can earn a bachelors, masters, or PhD! Conventions, Regional Conferences, etc are also wonderful events to participate in as well!

Why should you join my team? I've been a consultant with Close to My Heart for 15 wonderful years and I truly love what I do. My personal information is listed in the "About Me" section of the blog on the right in case you are interested. On the business side, I bring a positive approach to my team and am available to help whenever you need me. My team meets once a month and we ~~have a blast~~ learn a lot! We have over 40 people in our team and everyone is treated equally. Whether you are a hobbyist, hold 10 parties a month, or are an "adoptee," we all have a great time. Everyone is so willing to help each other and is so friendly. I would love for you to come to a meeting to check it out. Just let me know if you are interested and I will give you the information.

Card Box Using Art Philosophy Cartridge

Our Inky Finger's group did a box swap at the Christmas party and here is the box I made. I covered a plain white tin card box with Close to My Heart papers and glued about 40 roses to the top. The roses were SO EASY because the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge cut them out! All I had to do was roll them up and glue them down!

I added a cream opaque pearl to the center of all the flowers.

Santa Pillow Boxes

I made these for my Customer Appreciation Day last weekend. I used my Close to My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge to make the pillow box and buckle. The pillow box was cut at 5" and the buckle was 3/4." I think they turned out pretty cute!

Hot Chocolate Card

We made these fun hot chocolate cards at my workshop. I got the idea from a wonderful fellow consultant named Kelly Brandt. Here are directions:

Use a 5x12 piece of card stock and score it at 1 1/2", 3", 5 1/2", and 8 1/4" then fold accordion style. Decorate with papers to fit your sections. Fold a cocoa packet to fit in the largest section. Hold the card closed with a cardstock band like shown above or ribbon. Enjoy!

The stamps fit perfectly on a 1 x 2 piece of cardstock or use the Cricut Cartridge to cut out a ticket shape! You can see the tag cut out around the January Stamp below.

I created an interchangeable calendar using a CTMH Memory Game Box and used the Stamp of the Month below. There is one "coaster" for each month inside the box. It has a monthly calendar on one side and a photo on the other side. I adhered the flap of a 3x3 plastic envelope to the top of the box so the envelope hangs over the back. The calendars/photos fit inside the envelope to interchange throughout the year. The side that has the magnetic flap is actually now the back instead of the front. If you would like to make one of these then stay tuned for information on my workshop coming soon!

Whew! It has been a busy September! Between the kids starting school, the teacher's strike, soccer, and my sister's wedding, things have been crazy! Here are a few photos that were taken in the three days. The teacher's strike has allowed us to do a few extra fun things.

Notes:

The tag from the Stamp of the Month was stamped in black onto a piece of Sunset B&T Duos from the Mischief Paper Packet. I used Foam Tape to pop it up on the card.
The Bling Button was adhered to the card using Glue Dots
The Bling Pins are stuck through the Foam Tape under the tag. It's a great way to keep the pins in place!

Crazy Campers

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately, but this is the crazy crew I've been hanging out with at our annual campout. We went to Ft. Flagler on the Washington State peninsula and had a great time. Camping isn't my favorite thing, but I love seeing my family happy and hanging out with some great friends. As you can see, they are a lot of fun! Do you like to camp? If so, what is your favorite meal? We always like to try new things!

Here is my card using the Distressed Color Blocking Technique. The recipe and directions are below.

August Stamp of the Month: Wicked
Creme Brulee Cardstock
Black Cardstock
White Cardstock
Creme Brulee Ink Pad
Sunset Ink Pad
Black Ink pad
Black Waxy Flax
3D Foam Tape
Piercing Tool

You can order these on your consultant's website or if you don't have a consultant, you can order HERE.

Directions

Take a piece of white cardstock and a medium color ink pad (Sunset) and scrape the edge of the ink pad down the center of the white paper leaving some white space creating a distressed block of ink on the paper. Let dry a few seconds.
Now take a slightly lighter ink pad (Creme Brulee) and drag it over the previous block of color you created on the cardstock. Let dry a second.
Use a solid silhouette image (like the SOTM!), stamp it in black over your distressed color block.
To finish this card I used the honeycomb stamp from the set with Creme Brulee ink on a Creme Brulee card to create the background.
The edges of the card were scraped with a Black Ink Pad
I wrapped Black Waxy Flax around the first two layers of cardstock and tied it in a bow near her waist. The ends of the waxy flax were curled by wrapping them around the Piercing Tool.
The first two layers were elevated using 3D Foam Tape

Minute to Win It Birthday Party

For my son's 10th birthday party we created a fun Minute to Win It Party. It took a bit of thought on how to do it, so I've shared them all with you here so you don't have to recreate the wheel! We had 10 ~~crazy~~ energetic boys at the party and I think they all had a blast! The TV show is one of my son's favorites, so it seemed like the perfect party theme for him. Of course, as with all of the themes I seem choose, you can't find party supplies yet. I'm sure they will come out with them in the next month or two given my past experience. Here are the details:

Invitation

I created an invitation on my computer using some of the graphics on the Minute to Win It website. Hey, if you don't want me to use your copyrighted images then come up with some party supplies, right? :o) The invite went a little like this:

Games

There were 10 boys and each of them chose 4 out of 8 games to play, so basically 5 boys played each of the games throughout the evening. I made a chart on posterboard that listed the names of the boys on the left column and the games at the top. Everyone that participated in each game received a prize for their goodie bag, but those that placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd also received points on the chart that counted toward the final prizes. 1st place received 3 points, 2nd place received 2 points, and 3rd place received 1 point. The small prizes were items from the DollarTree that came in bulk packs like swirly straws, candy, bouncy balls, personal battery powered fans etc. Memorial Day is coming up so it was handy that the Minute to Win It colors are red, white, and blue. The final prizes were $15, $10, and $5 GameStop gift cards.

CHOCOLATE UNICORN

When the whistle blows, players may begin using 1 hand to stack snack cakes 1 at a time on the forehead.
If a cake or cakes fall, player may use the same hand to restack them.
To complete the game, player must stack 7 (we ended up doing 5 because 7 was too many) snack cakes 1 atop the other on the forehead before any one else. We left the wrappers on because it was inside and would have made a mess, but it would have been easier for them to be unwrapped. 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place winners will receive corresponding points.

HANKY PANKY

When the clock starts, player may grab the first tissue.
Player must use the same hand to pull the tissues for the entire game.
Players can only pull ONE tissue at a time!
Player's fingers may not enter the box.
To complete the game, player must empty the box, pulling the final tissue before the other contestants.
1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place winners will receive corresponding points.

JUNK IN THE TRUNK

Fill the tissue box with ping-pong balls, then attach tissue box to the back of belt. Put on the belt with the tissue box sitting at the small of the back.
When the clock starts, players may begin moving body to shake the ping-pong balls out.
Player's hands or arms may not touch the box or belt.
Player may only touch the floor with his or her feet.
To complete the game, player must get all 5 ping-pong balls out of the box before any one else. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive corresponding points.

BOTTOMS UP

Prior to game start, contestants wear a rubber ball attached to the back of their pants or a belt, like a tail. (I found a rubber ball game at the DollarTree that was attached to an elastic string and a velcro wristband that was perfect!)
Once game begins, contestants begin moving their body to get the ball swinging and try to knock over the 6 plastic cups surrounding them.
Contestant may not use hands, arms, feet or legs to guide the string or ball.
Contestant may not hold belt.
If a contestant touches the cups with their body, resulting in a cup falling over, the game is considered a fail.
If one cup knocks another cup down both cans will count toward the final score.
To complete the game, contestant must knock over all the cups using the ball.

DEFYING GRAVITY

Prior to game start, contestant stands with two balloons. After the whistle signal the contestants will release the balloons up into the air.
Contestants may use any part of the body to hit the balloons.
Balloons may not be held by the contestant, or rest on any part of the body once they have been released.
Contestant and balloons must remain in designated play area during game.
If a balloon pops upon contact with the body the contestant is eliminated.
The person to keep the balloons up in the air the longest is the winner. 2^nd and 3^rd place winners will also be given points.

FACE THE COOKIE

Prior to game start, contestants must be seated in an upright position in the chair with hands on knees.
Contestant can put an Oreo on their forehead before start of game.
Starting Oreo position must always be in the center of the forehead, not touching the eyebrows.
Game begins at the whistle
Once the game begins, the contestants may use only their head to manipulate the Oreo.
The Oreo must remain in contact with the face at all times (i.e. may not be tossed from the forehead and caught in the mouth).
If an Oreo falls, off the head, the contestant must start over with an intact Oreo.
To complete the game, the contestant must hold an intact Oreo with his or her mouth before everyone else. 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd places will receive points.

WINDMILL

At the whistle, contestants will hold onto the ends of the crepe paper rolls and unwind them by twirling your arms or wrapping them around their bodies.
If the paper tears at any time, the participant may pick up the end and keep going.
The first one to unroll both of them is the winner!
1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd places will receive points.

THE NUTSTACKER

Contestants will stand facing the table with 7 metal nuts strung onto a wooden chopstick in front of them
At the whistle, they will move the nuts to the end of the wooden chopstick and stack 7 metal nuts on top of each other
If the nuts fall, you must start over

Party Bags - I used my Close to My Heart stamps along with coordinating stamp pads to create tags for the paper gift bags for each child. I got 2 red/blue gift bags for $1 at the DollarTree. Along with the small prizes after each game, the boys also received a blue or red water bottle that had another name tag. (You can see the waterbottles in the picture with the birthday cake below.)

Cake - I had spent quite a bit on other items, so I kept the cake simple and made cupcakes. I found cupcake papers and star toothpicks/toppers at Michaels that matched the colors and they were perfect! I also found small "1" and "0" toothpick candles that I put on the two middle cupcakes. On a blue glass cake stand, they looked great!

Food
We picked up some pizzas for the boys and also had fruit available too.

I am so proud of my son and I just have to brag for a minute. He's not quite 10 and he's playing on a 12U competitive league. There are kids that are 13 years old on the team (yes, their birthday made the cutoff) and he's holding his own and then some. I think watching him play ball is one of my favorite things to do - it may even top stamping and scrapbooking! Tonight it poured down rain and was freezing, but there was no way I was going to my car! It's called "being prepared." I keep blankets, chair, and of course my wind umbrella in my trunk and they've made it out for every game this season. Hopefully we'll get some sun for the double header on Vashon Island this weekend!

Circle Cutter

Blending Pen

Glue Dots

Directions:

Cut paper to the following dimensions:

(1) 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 Cocoa Cardstock scored at 5 1/2"
(1) 3 x 8 Olive Cardstock scored at 4"
(2) 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 Colonial White Cardstock
(1) 4 x 5 1/4 Background paper (squares/patchwork pattern)
(1) 2 3/4 x 4 Background Paper (small pink pattern)
(1) 3" Circle in Smoothie Cardstock
(1) 2 3/4" Circle in Colonial White Cardstock

Stamp a chair randomly on the Colonial White circle with Bamboo ink
Stamp Home Sweet Home in Cocoa ink in the center of the Colonial White circle
Use the Blending Pen to go over the letters in Home Sweet Home to give it some shading
Scrape and Sponge Cocoa Ink around the Colonial White Circle
Stamp the heart randomly in Sky ink on one of the pieces of 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 Colonial White CS
Sponge Sky ink around the edges of both pieces of Colonial White Cardstock
Stamp large saying in Cocoa Ink on the other piece of 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 Colonial White cardstcok
Scrape the edges of the Smoothie Pad around the edge of the Smoothie Circle
Stamp the tiny flower on a small Canvas Button in Cocoa Ink
Use the blending pen and coordinating ink pads to add color to the flowers on the button
Now it's time to put it all together!
Take the largest piece of Cocoa cardstock and crease the fold where you scored. The fold should be on the left side
Attach the patchwork/squared background paper inside the Cocoa card
Attach the pink patterned paper to the outside/left flap
Take the Olive piece of cardstock and fold in half
Attach the Olive piece on top of the patchwork/squared pattern paper to the right with the fold of the Olive cardstock on the right
The front of the Olive piece should be on the outside of the Cocoa/Pink flap of the card
Attach the Colonial White cardstock rectangles to the Olive cardstock as shown in the photos (Blue heart piece on top and the large saying piece on the inside.)
Adhere the Colonial White circle to the Smoothie circle and attach those using Foam Tape to the top of the card
Add a Cocoa knotted ribbon near the top/right of the circle using a glue dot
For the Canvas button - Peel the backing off and cut the backing in half. Replace half of the backing and attach it to the bottom/left of the card. You want the Olive cardstock flap to be able the slide under part of the button to secure it, but easily slide out so the card can open.

Merci Bliss Envelope Card

Here is the last card from my April Workshop. We used a piece of 4x12 Outdoor Denim cardstock and folded it into thirds, creating a top flap. Then we just measured to the center and folded the corners in to create the envelope look. The toile background paper from the Bliss Level 2 paper packet looks great with Outdoor Denim! We used the Scallop Circle Punch for the center medalion and it is only attached to the cardstock so the flap can open. The stamp set is called "Thank You" and is probably my most used stamp set. I love having several different thank you stamps! It is hard to see, but there is a Bitty Sparkle for the dot on the "i." The whole thing is sanded using the sanding block . Bliss with Villa Chipboard Die-Cuts Card

Yet another teaser from my last workshop. :o) The ladies learned how to create this simple bow and how to cut a square out of the card without all the stress of measuring perfectly. The card also features the Irresistible Villa Chipboard Die-Cuts. We used a sponge and the Parchment and Bamboo ink pads and swirled the ink onto the square. It's amazing how beautiful these look when inked! The embossed design resists the ink so it stays white. You can use any color ink to match your papers! Give them a try!

Here is a card we made at my workshop today. The stamp set that comes in the Bliss Workshop Kit is a fun set to work with. I love the writing background stamp behind the silhouetted people.

Tip: To make sure your Opaques like up straight try this - Put a piece of cardstock on your card in the area you want the accents and use the straight edge as a guide to add opaques. It will give you a straight line without needing a ruler.

Note:
I wanted to try stamping these onto the patterned paper, but the dove just got lost in the detail. Then I decided to try stamping the outline onto Colonial White cardstock with Chocolate Ink. The inside of the dove was inked with Gray Flannel, stamped onto scratch paper, the bottom of the dove is rolled back into Gray Flannel, and then stamped onto the cardstock. I cut it out and popped it up using Foam Tape. I think I like it!

I think I deserve a ~~homemaker~~ domestic goddess award today - worked out, walked the dog, cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms, family room, vacuumed, sanitized light-switches/remotes, planned meals for next week, went grocery shopping, cleaned out frig, ~~spilled pickle juice~~ washed the kitchen floor, met with our life insurance broker - whew! ....and it's only 1:30. Can I have a brownie now? :o) I love my days off!

March Stamp of the Month: Sensational Seasons Bunny Card

This was a fun card to make using the Paper Piecing technique. I stamped the bunny from the Stamp of the Month on white cardstock and used the lid of my stamp pads and blending pen to color it. Then I stamped her onto background paper and just cut out the apron and added it on top of the bunny. I also used the Sophia Level 2 paper packet with Sweet Leaf Ribbon. Ribbon Rosette with Scallop Circle Punch & Glitter Gel

We made this card at my last team meeting. It is a different version of the acetate flower card I posted a few days ago. Have you ever had something work the first time and then never again?! The first time I used the Scallop Circle Punch on the overheard projector plastic, it worked perfectly, but when I tried it at my unit meeting it didn't work anymore. Luckily, I had a backup plan just in case. We cut out one of the roses from the beautiful pink ribbon assortment, added some glitter gel in a accent jar, then smooshed the rose into the jar to cover the tips of the rose with the glitter and viola - sparkly rose! That technique was shown on a CTMH video that I posted earlier.

Supplies:

D1476 Card Chatter - Sympathy Stamp Set (1" x 3 1/2" Block)
4 1/4 x 11 White Daisy CS
Sophia Workshop Kit Papers:
2 1/2 x 3 3/4 Striped paper (stripes going short-ways)
2 x 3 3/4 small floral paper
(2) 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 polka dot paper
Chocolate Stamp Pad
4 1/4 Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon
(2) White Brads
Designer Pink Ribbon
Scallop Punch
Piercing Tool
Foam Tape
Glue Dots
Liquid Glass
Tombow Adhesive
Sponge (for brown ink)

All supplies can be found on my website!

Here are the other instructions:

Use Chocolate Ink and a sponge to add ink to the edges of all the papers
Glue the background papers to the card toward the top of the card to leave room for the saying at the bottom
Stamp "Thinking of You" at the bottom using Chocolate Ink
Add the brown ribbon across the card with tombow adhesive
Use the Piercing Tool to create holes for the brads
Add the white brads
Punch two scallop circles out of the two 2 1/2" polka dot papers
Place the two scallop circles together and snip (from the outside into the center) every other scallop to create petals. You can do each circle separately, but this saves time.
Bend each petal up and down to separate them so they are more distinct
With the green side up of one of the scallop flowers, place a piece of foam tape in the center and add the other flower on top
Add Liquid Glass to the center of the pink flower
Cut out a rose from the Pink Ribbon Assortment
Squeeze some Glitter Gel into an accent jar
Squish your rose into the Glitter Gel as show in the CTMH video, let dry
Add Liquid Glass to the center/top of the pink polka dot scalloped flower
Add the rose on top
Let dry and done!
